concept

In the context of Moab, the notion of tourism is a detriment to the community, yet itʼs what also fuels the economy. The convergence of community and tourism is nonexistent in Moab. This eco-tourism center enables the local community and visitors to co-exist with one another. This program places a central focus on the education of the dark skies of Moab as a way to create interaction between both parties, growing the community. Architecturally, the idea of convergence is employed through solar geometries and materiality. The solar azimuths, both at sunrise at the winter solstice and sunset at the summer solstice, inform the formal qualities of architectural masses, and the organization of program. Convergence is expressed materially and parametrically through the use of rhythm, gradient, and transparency.
